Affiliations
The Dermatology Society of South Africa (DSSA) aims to:
- Promote the science and practice of Dermatology.
- Define and establish relationships amongst dermatologists and facilitate them and the hospitals, public and private institutions, government authorities, medical schemes, the medical profession in general, and the public.
- Promote the professional and legitimate interests of dermatologists.
- Promote all matters related to the realisation of the abovementioned.

Medical solutions for the skin, our interface with the world
The 1900’s saw Drs E.J. Schultz and Margaret Bayles graduate as the first white female dermatologists.
Dr Jamila Aboobaker and Dr Zubie Hamed were the first Indian dermatologists, while Dr Pholile Mpofu and Dr Ncoza Dlova were the first African dermatologists and Dr Pat Lawrence the first Coloured dermatologist.
Fast forward, roughly two decades later and you will find that to date, South Africa boasts about 110 female dermatologists in the public and private sector.
