Dr Pieter du Plessis completed an ASDS ITMP Fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery in the United States, and founded the Skinmatters Mohs and Reconstruction Unit in Pretoria, South Africa. He performs Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Staged Excision with PADEMA on indicated skin tumours, including malignant melanoma, DFSP, Extramammary Paget’s disease and others. He has been recognized by the ASDS International Fellowship Recognition Program as a Fellowship Director in Mohs Surgery and has trained three Fellows in Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

The Skinmatters Mohs and Reconstruction Unit comprise a team of specialists and has completed 18 500 Mohs surgery cases 2014-2024, with 3600 cases performed during 2023 alone. The unit has hosted a number of international Mohs Surgeons and Fellows in Mohs Surgery. Dr du Plessis has published papers in peer reviewed journals on several topics in dermatology, recently focused on Mohs Surgery, has been an invited lecturer at local and international congresses, and a reviewer in peer reviewed journals.
