Our executive committee is elected by our members during the Annual General Meeting, which takes place at our yearly Dermatological Congress. Meet our Exco Members

Dr Izolda Heydenrych

MBChB, DA (SA), BSc Hons (Nucl Med), MMed Derm

Before specialising in Dermatology, Dr Heydenrych obtained a Diploma in Anaesthetics and Hons BSc in Nuclear Medicine (Stellenbosch University).

Dr Heydenrych is a director and co-founder of the Cape Town Cosmetic Dermatology Centre and is currently in full-time private practice.

Her own training company, HeyEd , was conceived during the past year as a forum for practical injectable training .

Due to her passion for teaching, Dr Heydenrych holds an Honorary Consultant’s position in Aesthetics at Stellenbosch University, where she pioneered formal aesthetic training for Dermatologists.

Over the past 4 years she initiated the Short Course in Cosmetic Dermatology (SCCD) for qualified Dermatologists as well as the Dermatology Aesthetic Review Meetings (DARM) which have now evolved to include multiple fraternities at national meetings.

She has also instituted formal registrar training (RATS) for the registrars of both Cape Town and Stellenbosch Universities, an initiative, which is to extend to the University of KwaZulu-Natal as of 2017.

Over the past year HeyEd was conceived as a private training forum in the realisation that in structure there is freedom, but in sharing there is joy.

Dr Sian Hartshorne

Dr Hartshorne was the part-time consultant dermatologist at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Gauteng from 1998 to 2009 where she taught dermatology registrars and ran the Gauteng Leprosy Clinic. She also started a private practice which included work in lasers and photodynamic therapy.

Dr Hartshorne has a private Dermatology Practice in Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape. She is also an Honorary Dermatology Consultant in the Knysna Government Hospital and Eden District

Dr Hartshorne has a special interest in the management of skin cancers and was one of the first dermatologists to introduce Photodynamic Therapy as a treatment option. She also has been involved in Aesthetic Dermatology with a special interest in Cosmetic Products.

In 2017 she will launch a new training workshop: Practical Aesthetics for the Dermatologist, teaching skills in topical aesthetic procedures such as glycolic acid peels and how to advise patients about cosmetic products and their use.

Dr Ugeshnie Naidoo

Dr. Ugeshnie Naidoo was born in Pretoria and attended St Mary’s DSG.

She attended the University of Natal where she completed her MBChB and continued to work in Internal Medicine at Ga-Rankuwa Hospital.

She began Registrar training at the University of Natal in 2004 and obtained her FC Derm in 2007 at the College of Medicine South Africa.

Dr Naidoo is a dermatologist in private practice in Pretoria.

Dr Pieter du Plessis

As a Registrar, Dr du Plessis spent time in the Dermatological Surgery Unit of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Newcastle, (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom) where he received training in dermatological and formalin fixed Mohs surgery.

Dr du Plessis is in private practice, practising medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. As a clinician, he has gained considerable experience in treating patients for all relevant indications with ultraviolet, laser and photo-dynamic therapy at the LCM Skin and Laser Clinic.

He administers Botulinum Toxin A and Hyaluronic Acid filler injections extensively for both medical and cosmetic indications.

As a dermatologist, Dr du Plessis has an active interest in the Dermatologic Surgery, and has always practised the dermatologic surgical treatment of both benign and malignant skin conditions, in his rooms as well as the operating theatre.

After completing an ASDS ITMP Fellowship in Mohs skin cancer surgery in the United States, he set up a Mohs micrographic surgery unit in Pretoria, where he offers the procedure to referred patients.

Dr du Plessis is the immediate Past President of the South African Society of Dermatologic Surgery. He was responsible for organising the 2015 and 2016 combined DSSA/ SASDS/ VSSA congresses during his time as President.

He has served for 14 years as Chairman of the LCM Skin and Laser Clinic, and as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the organising committee of the yearly national Dermatologic Society of South Africa congress, as well as on the organising committee of the South African Dermatologic Surgery Society’s annual congress. He also served for two terms on the Board of the College of Dermatologists of South Africa, and has been an examiner for the College of Dermatologists’ Part 2 Exams.

He now meets with and exchanges ideas with other global experts on how to maximise the results of his cosmetic patients.
