Dermatology is a speciality area of medicine dealing with both the medical and surgical aspects of the skin, nails, hair, and its associated diseases.
Our skin is one of our most valuable assets and offers the first layer of protection from the external environment. It is also affected by our health and lifestyle choices.
The aim of our society is to provide all our members with up to date training and education in dermatological procedures. We encourage safe and effective management of all dermatological conditions, which gives our patients the best internationally recognised treatments. The society also offers mentorship to all dermatology training registrars and young recently qualified dermatologists which ultimately enables a continuation of dermatology education and expertise.
The vision of the SASDS (South African Society for Dermatologic Surgery) for 2024 is further growth in knowledge of procedural and aesthetic dermatology and to improve practical skills in procedural dermatology.
Our Vision and Mission for 2024 are to host surgical and aesthetic workshops, to continue to spread our knowledge through the monthly SASDS online journal meetings and online workshops and to bridge the gap between our members and those in academic dermatology, as well as rural and urban communities, so that we develop as a force of dermatology in Southern Africa.
As we continue to work on ways to interact with all our members and to continue the teaching and support, we will endeavour to give support and encourage the continued quality of dermatological services in this country. Ultimately, it will be the patients who will benefit from better-informed management of all dermatological procedures and disorders.
